  1. This is a helpful post. It's focused on fMRIs. I think the limitations noted can be boiled down to the following: fMRIs focus on measuring blood flow and oxygen consumption; and the multi-functionality of most brain areas can often complicate interpretation (which applies to other types of brain imaging).

    There are other types of brain imaging or related tests or scans besides fMRIs. Such as the regular MRI (as opposed to fMRI), EEG, CT scan, and PET scan. But these have their limitations as well. For example, see here and here.
